Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I train?
When it comes to Pilates there is no magic number.  At Pilates Sense we do not require that you train any specific number of times but coming twice a week will benefit you more than once a week.  Coming three to four times a week will benefit you more than twice a week.

What if I have limitations or injuries?
Injuries and limitations should always be discussed.  At Pilates Sense we believe you should work within your bodies range, respect your body and listen to your body. From there you will get stronger and healthier.

Do I need to work on the equipment or can I just take a mat class?
We do have many clients who only take mat but the clients who add in the equipment class along with mat may notice more of a difference sooner.

The schedule doesn't work for me.  Can I work out with my friends?
If a class time does not work for your schedule and you have a group of friends that want to participate in a class another time, new classes can be started.

Massage/Lypossage/Body Work Frequently Asked Questions

How early should I arrive for my massage, Lypossage or X'tract treatment?
New clients should arrive 10 minutes prior to their massage to fill out paperwork and meet with their therapist prior to their treatment.  Returning clients should arrive five minutes prior to their session.

Do you accept same-day appointments?
Yes! As long as the schedule of the practitioner is open, you are welcome to the time slot.

Is it okay to talk during my massage or body work?
Please feel free to talk with your practitioner during your scheduled treatment. In fact, communication during your massage or body work can help the practitioner determine the best strategy for meeting your specific needs. Alternatively, you may prefer to sit back, relax and quietly enjoy the Zen environment. Some people are so relaxed, they actually fall asleep. This is okay too.

Are there any cancellation fees?
Yes. To respect the schedule and time of our team, we ask that you cancel at least 24 hours in advance of your scheduled treatment.

Should I tip my massage therapist?
Gratuities are always appreciated. If you are happy with your treatment, the industry standard for tipping is 15% to 20% of your total service charge. You can tip in cash or add it on to your credit card statement upon checkout.

What should I expect on my first visit?
If it is your first time visiting, you will be given some paperwork to fill out. This paperwork will help us assist you in deciding what type of massage or body work you may need. After completion of the paperwork, you will review with one of our team members to decide on the appropriate service for you that particular day.

Before a massage, share with your therapist whether you are looking for a general stress-reduction massage, or whether you are seeking help with a specific problem such as neck pain, lower back pain, headaches, carpal tunnel syndrome or other pain. All these conditions can be effectively treated with massage therapy.

If you are having a massage or doing Lypossage, you will be given privacy to undress and lie comfortably on the table with a sheet or blanket covering you. Remember, you will be covered at all times. Some people choose to wear underclothes or swimsuits. Most people disrobe completely.

After your massage or body work, our team member will discuss how you are feeling, then you will then be left alone to dress. The last step it to check out at the front desk and schedule your next treatment.

Will my massage or body work hurt?
The answer is maybe. “Depth” is the term practitioners use to describe how much pressure they use during the session. Some people prefer a lighter touch, where the strokes are flowing and gentle. Others prefer deeper work, where the muscles are checked for trigger points and tightness.

In most cases, the deeper the work, the more discomfort you may experience.  However, deeper work is better at alleviating chronic pain problems that build up over time.

Will I feel sore after my massage?
At the end of your massage you should feel very relaxed and even a little sleepy.  Immediately following your massage and for a day or two following, you may even feel as if you worked out. This is temporary and a healthy part of your body’s recovery process.
